How to Use

This appliance is for household use only.

CHARGING PROCEDURES

1. Before first use, you will need to charge the can opener for 24 hours. Subsequent charges as needed should be for 12 hours

or overnight. When fully charged, the Gizmo™ cordless can opener is powered to open about a month’s worth of cans

based on 6 cans per week (one can – 20 seconds).

2. To charge the can opener, plug the small end of the AC adaptor into the can opener and plug the other end into a standard

wall outlet.

3. Before charging again, make sure unit is fully discharged by holding lever down and letting unit run until it stops. Then

recharge unit for 24 hours following above procedures. Recharging the unit after each short use may shorten the life of the

nickel-cadmium battery.

4. If can opener doesn’t function, make sure that when the unit is charging the AC adaptor is plugged in and the outlet is not

controlled by a wall switch.

TO OPEN A CAN

Note: You may use the Gizmo™ can opener as an independent portable unit at a stove, over

a pet dish, or over the sink.

1. Install the blade assembly by fitting the key spindle into the key notch and lowering the

operating lever until it is properly seated (A). Plug the AC adaptor into an electrical outlet.

2. Lift operating lever and position a can so that the rim is under the locating tab, then push

down on lever, making sure the blade is inside the rim (B). Let the can opener “walk

around” the can hands-free.

3. When the can is opened, the Gizmo™ can opener will stop automatically. Just lift lever

and remove unit from can.

4. Caution: Avoid contact with the cut edges of can or lids — they are sharp. Carefully remove

and discard the cut lid.

Care and Cleaning

CLEANING YOUR CAN OPENER

1. Wipe exterior of the unit with a soft damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleansers or scouring

pads. Never immerse unit or AC adaptor in water.

2. Lift operating lever up as far as it will go and pull the blade assembly straight out away from the can opener (B). Wash in

sudsy water by hand and dry thoroughly. You may put the blade assembly in the dishwasher, top rack only.

3. Before replacing the blade assembly, wipe unit body and area around the drive wheel with a slightly damp cloth or sponge.

To replace assembly, fit the key spindle into the key notch, push in, and lower lever until it is “seated” in place.

BATTERY REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL

This product uses rechargeable, recyclable nickel-cadmium batteries. When the batteries can no longer be charged, they

should be removed, recycled, or disposed of properly. These batteries must not be incinerated or composted.

Important: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVERING FROM THE BATTERIES.

Removal:

1. Remove blade assembly from the unit. (See “Care and Cleaning”). Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove

the screws on the unit and pry the two halves apart. You will see two barrel shaped batteries and connections. If the

batteries have leaked or vented, wear protective gloves before touching them.

2. Disconnect negative (-) black wire from one battery by sliding the connection off the battery. Disconnect positive (+) red

wire in the same way. Lift the battery pack out.

WHY YOU SHOULD RECYCLE YOUR RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

Unlike alkaline batteries that may last only a few weeks, nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries can be recharged over and over

again. Though Ni-Cd batteries last far longer than alkalines — usually 2 to 3 years — they eventually will no longer hold a

charge. When that happens, some consumers throw away the batteries or the product itself which is wasteful and harmful to

the environment. To help avoid this, contact your local recycling center for information on dropping off spent batteries.

The RBRC™ (Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation) Seal on the nickel-cadmium battery (or battery pack)

indicates that the costs to recycle the battery (or battery pack) at the end of its useful life have already been paid. In

some areas, it is illegal to place spent nickel-cadmium batteries in the trash or municipal solid waste stream and the

RBRC program provides an environmentally-conscious alternative.

RBRC has established programs in the United States to facilitate the collection of spent nickel-cadmium batteries.

Help protect our environment and conserve natural resources by bringing the spent nickel-cadmium battery

to your participating local retailer for recycling. You may also contact your local recycling center for information on dropping

off spent batteries in your town.

Como usar

Este producto es solamente para uso doméstico.

PROCEDIMIENTO DE CARGA

1. Antes de utilizar el abrelatas por primera vez, es necesario cargarlo durante 24 horas. De ahí en adelante, puede cargarse

según sea necesario durante 12 horas o durante la noche. Con plena carga, el abrelatas inalámbrico Gizmo™ tiene potencia

para funcionar durante aproximadamente un mes. Esto equivale a 6 latas por semana (una lata – 20 segundos).

2. Para cargar el abrelatas, conecte el extremo pequeño del adaptador de CA al abrelatas y el otro extremo a una toma de

corriente estándar.

3. Antes de cargarlo de nuevo, asegúrese de que el aparato esté completamente descargado. Para ello, mantenga la palanca

oprimida y permita que funcione hasta que se detenga. Luego cargue el abrelatas durante 24 horas según el procedimiento

anterior. Si el aparato se recarga después de cada uso, la batería de níquel-cadmio perderá efectividad.

4. Si el abrelatas no funciona, antes de cargar la unidad asegúrese que el adaptador de CA esté conectada y que la toma de

corriente no esté controlada por un interruptor de pared.

PARA ABRIR UNA LATA

Nota: Uno puede utilizar el abrelatas Gizmo™ como un aparato portátil sobre la estufa, el fregadero o sobre el plato de una

mascota.

1. Para instalar el montaje de la cuchilla haga coincidir el eje de llave con la ranura de llave y

baje la palanca de operación hasta encajar debidamente (ver la ilustración A). Enchufe el

adaptador de CA a una toma de corriente.

2. Alce la palanca de operación y coloque una lata de modo que el borde quede debajo de la

guía, luego baje la palanca, asegurándose que la cuchilla esté adentro del borde de la lata (B).

Permita que el abrelatas “circule” y abra la lata sin asistencia de las manos.

3. Una vez abierta la lata, el abrelatas Gizmo™ para automáticamente. Sólo alce la palanca y

retire la unidad de la lata.

4. Precaución: Evite el contacto con los bordes de las latas y las tapas porque tienen mucho filo.

Retire y deseche la tapa con cuidado.

Cuidado y limpieza

LIMPIEZA DEL ABRELATAS

1. Limpie la base y el exterior del aparato con un paño suave humedecido. No utilice

limpiadores ni almohadillas abrasivas. Jamás sumerja el aparato ni el adaptador de CA en agua.

2. Alce la palanca de operación hasta donde alcance y hale hacia afuera el ensamble de la cuchilla, alejándolo del abrelatas (B).

Lávelo a mano con agua y jabón y séquelo bien. El ensamble de la cuchilla también puede lavarse en la bandeja superior de

la máquina lavaplatos únicamente.

3. Antes de instalar el ensamble de la cuchilla, limpie el cuerpo de la unidad y el área alrededor de la rueda de propulsión con

un paño ligeramente humedecido o con una esponja. Para reemplazar el ensamble, acomode el eje de llave en la ranura,

empújelo hacia adentro y baje la palanca hasta caer en su lugar.

REMOCIÓN Y DISPOSICIÓN DE LAS BATERIAS

Este producto funciona con baterías de níquel cadmio recargables. Una vez que las baterías no pueden recargarse más, deben ser

removidas, recicladas, o desechadas apropiadamente. Estas baterías no deben ser incineradas ni desechadas en la basura.

Importante: NUNCA RETIRE LA CUBIERTA PLÁSTICA QUE PROTEGE LAS BATERIAS.

Remoción:

1. Retire el ensamble de la cuchilla de la unidad. (Consulte “Limpieza del abrelatas”). Use un destornillador Phillips pequeño

para retirar los tornillos y separar la unidad. Observará dos baterías cilíndricas y las conexiones.

2. Deslice el alambre negativo (-) negro para desconectarlo de la batería. De la misma manera, desconecte el alambre positivo (+)

rojo. Alce y saque el paquete de las baterías.

POR QUÉ SE DEBEN RECICLAR LAS BATERÍAS

A diferencia de las baterías alcalinas que duran únicamente algunas semanas, las baterías de níquel cadmio (Ni-Cd) pueden

recargarse repetidas veces. Sin embargo, aunque las baterías Ni-Cd duran mucho más que las alcalinas, por lo general de 2 a 3

años, con el tiempo no pueden recargarse más. Cuando esto sucede, algunos consumidores desechan las baterías o el producto,

produciendo desperdicio y serio daño al medio ambiente. A fin de evitar este problema, llame al centro de reciclaje más cercano

para que le indiquen como proceder para reciclar las baterías apropiadamente.

El sello RBRC™ Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation que aparece en las baterías de níquel cadmio o en el
